Paintings and Pastels

Below are all my paintings, mostly done on classic stretched canvasses, some on other materials. At this point, most paintings are acrylic, but oil pieces are making an appearence. My pastel pieces are done with oil pastels, woodless colored pencils, and sometimes chalk pastels. Many pieces are based on refrences, some quite closely, and some very loosely.

The Weight of Dreams

The Weight of Dreams is an acrylic painting on a 24x18 canvas. It draws inspiration from the aptly named song, “The Weight of Dreams” by the rock band Greta Van Fleet. All the song titles from the respective album strike me in a way that makes me itch to paint. The contents of the song invoke hope and loss, making the hairs on my arm stand at the drop.

It has become one of my favorite songs of all time, mostly because of how amazing it sounds, and partially because of my piece that came out of it, which I don’t believe I could have done otherwise. Even though the artists never know, I’m still grateful for their fantastic work.

Culinary Mural

The spring semester of my senior year, I thought the culinary room at Wheeler was in need of a slight makeover. With some sketches and approval from the principal, I started drawing on the wall. Slowly, with some help, we got the colors on the wall, and now a lively scene capturing the essence of food production brightens up the room. The whole wall is a 7’6” x 30’2” space, coming to a 4:1 ratio. The teacher loves it and I am so grateful for that opportunity.
